On the Burningman Tribe states (in defense of Landmark/EST) "as a handicapped person id think youd have an intimate understanding of the danger of the impact of blanket statements about groups of people. but, maybe i just misunderstood what you were trying to say.

can you backpedal in a wheelchair? " to CryptoFishey who lost her legs recently, and
"guns kill lots of people.. they also allow others to hunt(and eat), or defend themselves.. so are all guns bad? "
As a defense of a Cult/Scam.
This is just wrong!

I think I would be really good at adventure racing, but don't even know where to start. Where is there like an amateur race or something like that?

Hi All
I post stories on my Blog and have posted one on the Non-stop Dusi a 105 km kayak race from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in South Africa. The race involves big rapids, local tribes, (not always friendly) About 35 km of portaging and temperatures up to 40 degrees celsius, as well as the legendary enemy, "Dusi Guts".
For stories on my other adventure racing escapades visit my main blog on http://zanclus.blogspot.com/

verizon (cringe) challenge

i just found out about the verizon challenge. it's an urban adventure race that involves public transit, deciphering clues and... some other stuff. Sounds pretty similar to a large-scale treasure hunt. 2-man teams are the rule, and it's happening in SF and LA (as well as across the west coast, and maybe more)sometime this summer/fall. more details as i can find them.
anyone interested?

Hey Where is Everyone. Any Bay Area AR'ers out there????

Hi,
Any Bay Area folks out there. I want to get into AR, but no one on the BAAR website on Yahoogroups has come forward to race with me. I'm a newbie. Good trail running skills, crappy on a mt. bike, haven't paddled in forever, no nav experience. But I still wanna race.

I know racing well though as I've crewed for: Badwater Ultramarathon, Wasatch AR, 2 Balance Bars and Primal Quest. I've read everything on AR and I took a clinic.

What draws you to adventure racing?

i'm doing some research into adventure racing for an english class (how neat is that?), and one of the questions that i haven't been able to satisfactorily answer is "why?" what brings you do adventure racing, and why do you do it? some of the races are bound to be uncomfortable, and yet, you do it. Why? what do you recieve from adventure racing that you couldn't get elsewhere?
all answers are welcome, from solely personal to speculation about drives common to most people who race. i look forward to any feedback or ideas.

Efficasy of help to other teams

The debate continues, at least among a few of us, as to whether it is appropriate to help other teams in any part of an adventure race? Even though the place you finish in may not be important to you, the place the team places may affect other teams in the race and should you be a part of that?
